The penis

The penis is the male sex organ. There are no bones or muscles in the penis, and it has two main functions: to wee (urinate) and to ejaculate.

The penis has a shaft which is surrounded by the foreskin (a hood of loose skin that surrounds the penis). On most men both testicles hang outside the body, just behind the penis in a small pouch of skin called the scrotum.

What’s an erection, and why does it happen?

An erection is when blood flows into his penis faster than it flows out, causing the penis to get larger and harder, this is an erection.

Erections (boners/stiffies/hard-on’s) can come and go without warning. Appearing and disappearing at a moments notice.

Sometimes an erection occurs when a man is sexually excited, but can often happen when you’re not (sitting on a bus)

What is a foreskin?

The foreskin is a roll of skin that covers the end of the penis, when a man or boy gets an erection the foreskin stretches exposing the head of the penis. Boys and men need to make sure they wash under the foreskin.

Some boys and men have a circumcision (this is where the foreskin is removed) this is normally for religious/cultural reasons, but can also be for medical reasons. This makes no difference to a mans ability to wee or ejaculate.
